Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, CA

With age, facial skin loses resilience, and facial fat thins and settles with gravity. Lines become etched around the nose and mouth, the cheeks and the areas under the eyes begin to hollow, and the lips grow thinner. Dermal fillers are a fast and convenient injectable treatment that can replace lost volume to help smooth wrinkles, plump the lips, and restore a more youthful appearance. Fillers can also be used to correct facial asymmetry, strengthen the chin and jawline, and enhance the appearance of the nose.

David Feldmar, MD, oversees the skilled medical staff at the Feldmar Aesthetics Medspa in providing the best injectable dermal filler treatments in the Los Angeles area. Dr. Feldmar is a double-board-certified plastic surgeon, who combines art, science, and expertise in his medical work to create beautifully natural-looking results for his patients. Under Dr. Feldmar’s supervision, the Feldmar Aesthetics Medspa experts are highly trained with extensive experience administering injectable facial rejuvenation treatments. Everyone at Feldmar Aesthetics strives to create a warm and welcoming experience, where patients feel comfortable, heard, and appreciated for who they are.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are medical-grade gel-like substances that are injected underneath the skin to smooth lines and wrinkles and add volume in targeted locations. Most dermal fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid has two desirable cosmetic properties. First, it boosts the skin’s ability to retain moisture, resulting in added volume and improved skin health. Second, it can stimulate the skin’s production of collagen, a compound that plays a key role in skin health and resilience.

Dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid include Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Belotero®, each of which is made in a range of formulations for specific cosmetic applications. Formulations with larger particle sizes are used to add significant areas of volume, such as in the cheeks, below the eyes, or on the chin or jawline. Formulations with smaller particle sizes smooth fine lines and wrinkles or plump the lips.

Radiesse®, a dermal filler made from calcium hydroxyapatite, and Scupltra®, a filler made with polylactic acid, are even more effective at stimulating the production of collagen in the skin. Because of this, the results of treatment with Radiesse® and Sculptra® tend to be longer-lasting than the results of treatment with hyaluronic acid fillers. In addition to smoothing wrinkles, Radiesse® and Sculptra® can tighten mildly to moderately lax skin.

As an alternative to manufactured dermal fillers, facial fat grafting uses your own tissue to smooth facial lines and wrinkles and add facial volume. In facial fat grafting, unwanted fat is removed from another part of the body using liposuction, then purified and processed for injection into the face. Facial fat grafting can be used to make similar cosmetic enhancements as by injections of manufactured fillers, and the results are typically permanent.

Why You Might Consider Dermal Filler Treatment in Beverly Hills at Feldmar Aesthetics

If you’re bothered by signs of aging, such as facial wrinkles, lines, or creases, or loss of volume in your lips, cheeks, temples, or below your eyes, dermal fillers might be an optimal solution. Dermal fillers are highly effective for creating a younger and more refreshed look by correcting the following:

  • Facial lines and wrinkles, including deep creases around the nose and mouth (marionette lines and smile lines) or on the forehead (worry lines and frown lines)
  • Flat or hollow cheeks
  • Hollows below the eyes (tear troughs)
  • Sunken temples (temple augmentation)
  • Thin lips (lip augmentation) and lip lines
  • Recessed scars and other skin depressions (including acne scars)

It’s important to note that for some facial lines and creases, those associated with facial expressions, Botox® may be more effective or used in conjunction with dermal fillers. Botox® works by relaxing specific facial muscles to allow the skin to recover and become smooth again.

Dermal fillers can also be used as an alternative to cosmetic surgery in temporarily correcting:

  • The shape of the nose
  • A weak, recessed, or creased chin (chin augmentation)
  • Irregular facial contours, including asymmetry

Dermal filler treatment is fast, convenient, and involves no downtime for recovery. The results of treatment last for several months to a year (up to 2 years for Sculptra treatment) and can be extended with touch-up injections.

What to Expect During Your Dermal Filler Treatment

Dermal filler treatments are performed in the Feldmar Aesthetics MedSpa. Your skin may be numbed before treatment with a topical anesthetic. Many dermal fillers contain lidocaine to ensure comfort throughout the treatment. A fine needle is used to inject precisely calibrated amounts of dermal filler into your skin. Most patients experience little discomfort from the injections.

Dermal filler treatment sessions usually take between 15 minutes and an hour, after which you can directly resume your normal activities.

What to Expect After Your Dermal Filler Treatment

You may experience some minor bruising at the injection sites, which can be concealed with makeup. You will be instructed to refrain from strenuous physical activity for 24 hours. Our MedSpa experts will provide special care instructions you should follow thoroughly. No downtime is needed for recovery, which is one of the great appeals of dermal filler treatment.

You will see the results of your treatment right away—improvements typically last for 6 to 12 months. As Sculptra® works differently, results gradually develop over a few weeks, but results may last up to 2 years. When the results begin to fade, you can schedule touch-up treatments to maintain them.
