What Is a Liposuction Revision Surgery?
Have you had bad results from a liposuction operation performed by another doctor and were left with unsatisfactory results? If so, you are not alone, it is a relatively common situation. Fortunately, Dr. Feldmar is an expert at liposuction revision. Correcting problems with an earlier liposuction procedure is a challenging task, but Dr. Feldmar and the staff at Feldmar Aesthetics are the go-to experts in the area.
Are You a Candidate for Liposuction Revision?
Liposuction revision (also known as secondary liposuction) is not for everyone. It is only for people who have already had liposuction procedure and did not receive the expected results or was not successful. If you have had a bad or “botched” liposuction procedure at another practice, you can set an appointment with Dr. Feldmar for a careful evaluation of your potential candidacy for liposuction revision.
If you had a successful liposuction procedure in the past but have since gained weight or simply aged naturally necessitating a revision, you may also be a good candidate for the procedure. The candidates best suited are in good overall health and at a healthy weight.
You should not smoke or take anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, as this can increase the risk of complications developing. Even though liposuction revision is very effective, candidates should have realistic expectations about the outcome of their surgery and wish to remove fat deposits from one or more of the following areas:
- Arms
- Back
- Abdomen
- Thighs
- Buttocks
Liposuction revision can also result from changes in health or sudden weight gain. Primary liposuction operations can be an effective way to eliminate fat deposits from areas of the body that are resistant to diet and exercise. In most instances, liposuction can provide enduring benefits that can last many years. However, under various circumstances which cause weight gain, liposuction revision surgery may be needed, due to unexpected deformities emerging as the body changes.
What Happens During Liposuction Revision?
Liposuction revision is performed on an outpatient basis under or general anesthesia. To ensure the safety of each patient, every surgery is performed at our accredited Swall Surgery Center.
Very often, a contouring deformity is the reason a revision is needed. Liposuction revision will typically require either traditional suction-assisted liposuction (SAL) or ultra-sound-assisted liposuction (UAL). Dr. Feldmar will determine where will make the incisions. Tiny and, when possible, inconspicuous incisions are made where a cannula (thin tube) is inserted underneath the skin. After fat cells are loosened and removed through a suctioning device, the incisions are closed.
Recovering from the Procedure
Typically, patients who undergo any type of liposuction procedure make a speedy recovery and can be back at work within a day or two. The more areas of your body that are affected, the longer the time needed to recover might be.
Once the procedure is finished, the incisions will be bandaged, and compression garments will be placed around the surgical sites to reduce swelling. The doctor may prescribe medications which can be taken to relieve pain or ease any discomfort that may occur during the recovery process. Many patients return to work about a week after surgery, but you should avoid strenuous activity and exercise for at least four weeks. As always, the best plan is to consult with your doctor to make sure you are taking the right steps during the recovery period.
