Perhaps your inverted nipples make you feel self-conscious. Or perhaps you are planning on breastfeeding and hope that correcting your inverted nipples will make that easier. No matter what your reasons for having your inverted nipples corrected, Dr. Feldmar highly experienced cosmetic surgery providers, can help you decide whether this surgery is right for you.
What Are Inverted Nipples?
Inverted nipples are very common. They occur when the nipple does not project normally because the ducts leading to the nipple are overly tight. This causes the nipple to be pulled into the surrounding areola. In severe cases, there may even be a depression at the center of the areola.
Inverted nipples may make it difficult or impossible to breastfeed because the nursing baby cannot latch onto the breast and bring the nipple into its mouth. In rare cases, this condition may also occur in men.

Our inverted nipple correction patients are usually delighted with the quality of their care and thrilled with the improvement in their appearance.
How Inverted Nipple Correction is Performed
Inverted nipples can be corrected with a minor surgical procedure performed at our accredited Swall Surgery Center. This minor procedure is usually performed under local anesthetic, although some patients prefer to be totally asleep under a general anesthetic. In either case, there is no pain during the procedure.
In this operation, a tiny, 2 mm incision is placed along the edge of the nipple. The overly tight ducts, which are the cause of the inversion, are then gently released. This allows the nipple to immediately project normally.
After undergoing inverted nipple correction, patients can see the improvement right away. A single small absorbable stitch is then placed along the edge of the incision. The suture dissolves in about a week. The scar is usually invisible.
Meeting With Your Inverted Nipple Correction Surgeon
We encourage you to bring a list of questions. We would be thrilled to answer all your questions because we truly believe a well-informed cosmetic surgery patient is a happy patient. At the end of your consultation, you will be able to book your operation for another day.
Recovery Following an Inverted Nipple Correction
If patients are placed under general anesthetic, they will need to have someone pick them up and take them home.
Recovery following inverted nipple correction is very simple. Patients can start showering the day following surgery. We ask that our inverted nipple correction patients gently wash the area with soap and water regularly and then apply an antibiotic ointment.
There may be minor oozing for a few days following surgery. Usually, patients require just a light pad inside the bra for a few days. Patients may return to work the following day but should take about 2 weeks before engaging in any vigorous exercise.
Risks and Complications of Inverted Nipple Correction
Every operation has risks and complications but these are all very rare with nipple correction surgery. Such risks include infection, bleeding, loss of sensation and inability to breastfeed.
Before your surgery, our inverted nipple correction specialists Dr. Feldmar will discuss these risks with you.
Cost of Inverted Nipple Correction
Inverted nipple correction is generally considered to be a form of cosmetic surgery. Because of this, provincial and company insurance plans do not usually cover the costs of the procedure. For the convenience of our patients, we have several financing plans available through major lending institutions that specialize in financing for medical and cosmetic procedures. All the same, most patients happily discover that the cost of inverted nipple surgery is very affordable. Many people have come to recognize that cosmetic surgery is a lasting investment in their own happiness and self-confidence rather than simply an expense.
There are different degrees of nipple inversion and the correctional surgery differs for each patient. Please contact us by phone or e-mail for more information about the cost of the procedure. You can also use the Request for Information form on this page to get in touch with us. If you are looking for a more exact estimate, your surgeon will be able to give you details specific to your case at the end of your free consultation.
