GET BEACH-READY WITH A TUMMY TUCK: A GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING THE PROCEDURE

Losing weight is a challenge on its own. After losing a large amount of weight, you may be left with loose skin and excess fat deposits. If this is your case, you are likely looking for a solution for the excess fat and skin. There is hope for you. A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that offers effective results.

If you want to tighten loose skin on your abdomen and get rid of unwanted fat deposits, a tummy tuck is perfect for you. At Feldmar Aesthetics, we offer abdominoplasty. You are in great hands with Dr. David Feldmar, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, CA.

What Is a Tummy Tuck?

A better understanding of a tummy tuck procedure can help you prepare for your surgery and have realistic expectations. A tummy tuck is an FDA-approved surgical procedure that uses incisions and anesthesia to address excess fat and skin in your abdominal area. In addition, it also restores weakened muscles to give your tummy area a smoother and firmer appearance.

Your Initial Consultation

Your journey begins with a consultation with us. This happens before your surgery. During the consultation, we will assess your current health condition and review your medical history, including lifestyle habits, medications, allergens, existing medical conditions, and previous surgery. We will also review your abdomen area and assess your suitability for a tummy tuck.

Discussing your concerns and goals with us can help you to achieve optimal results. This is your opportunity to ask us questions about the preparation, procedure, and recovery of a tummy tuck procedure. With all the information we gather, we can recommend the right tummy tuck procedure for you.

Preparing for a Tummy Tuck

Being well-prepared for your tummy tuck surgery can help you to have a smooth and successful experience. Taking these measures will make your surgery and recovery easier. Here is a short guide for you to follow:

  • Arrange for someone to drive you to your surgery and back home after surgery. You will also need someone to assist you with certain daily tasks for a few days after your surgery.
  • You will need to avoid using certain medications, such as herbal supplements, anti-inflammatory drugs, and aspirin.
  • Avoid weight fluctuations before your surgery. This will help you to achieve optimal results.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

Your tummy tuck involves excess skin and fat removed from your abdomen region. The connective tissue in the abdomen, called fascia, is typically tightened with sutures. The skin that remains is then repositioned to create a firmer, more toned appearance.

Before we begin the surgery, we will administer anesthesia to endure comfort during your abdominoplasty procedure. We will either use intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.

Incisions are carefully made in natural creases, such as in the area between your pubic hairline and your belly button. The size and shape of the incisions will depend on the amount of excess skin in your tummy area.

Once the skin is elevated, we can repair your weakened abdomen muscles. If you have excess skin in the upper abdomen area, we will make a second incision around your navel to remove the skin. The remainder of the upper skin is then pulled over your abdomen and sutured together. A new opening is made for your belly button.

After closing up your abdomen area and removing excess skin, we will use surgical tape or stitches to close your incisions. We will then apply bandages to your abdomen to apply slight pressure to the treated area. We will also fit a compression garment or an elastic bandage to dress your wound. We will insert drainage tubes into your abdomen to drain any excess blood or fluids from your tummy area.

This procedure will result in a flatter and firmer abdomen area with redefined contours that are more proportionate to the rest of your body.

The Recovery Period

You need to take extra care of yourself and your treated area to ensure a successful recovery and achieve optimal results. Compression garments will provide support during your recovery, but there are a few more things to consider.

We will give you clear and easy-to-follow instructions to care for your surgical site. We will also prescribe appropriate pain medication. You will need someone to assist you for a few days with some daily tasks, and you should try to ease back into your routine gradually and cautiously. Getting plenty of rest will also help your recovery.

Types of Tummy Tucks

There are two main types of abdominoplasty procedures. The procedure you choose will depend on your area of concern and the amount of excess skin and fat you have.

Full Tummy Tuck

A full tummy tuck involves removing the skin from your navel area to your pubic area. Abdominal muscles will be tightened, and we may use liposuction to remove excess fat.

Mini Abdominoplasty

A mini tummy tuck is better suited if you have stubborn fat under your navel. We will only make incisions in the lower region of your tummy.
