Facelift in Beverly Hills & Los Angeles
Facelift surgery can address unwanted changes to our faces that come with aging. Skin loses its resilience and can start to wrinkle and sag. Facial lines and creases can deepen and become more noticeable. Fat that once plumped the cheeks can be pulled downward by gravity and settle into jowls or a double chin. A facelift corrects these and other unhappy changes, smoothing wrinkled skin, eliminating sagging, and restoring definition to the jawline. With modern techniques, and in the hands of a skilled plastic surgeon, the changes made with a facelift are beautiful and natural-looking.
At Feldmar Aesthetics, Dr. David Feldmar performs facelift surgery in Beverly Hills to help men and women in the Los Angeles area look younger and more attractive and feel better about themselves. Dr. Feldmar is a double board-certified plastic surgeon, who combines art, science, and deep expertise in his medical work to create beautiful, natural-looking results for his patients. He and his staff run their practice to be a warm and welcoming experience, where patients feel comfortable, listened to, and appreciated for who they are.

What Is a Facelift?
A facelift is a facial plastic surgery procedure that corrects visible signs of aging, including lax skin, lines and wrinkles, and the downward movement of facial fat. A facelift accomplishes this by raising and tightening underlying muscles and connective tissue, removing or repositioning excess fat, and tightening and smoothing facial skin.
A facelift corrects visible signs of aging in the lower part of the face, below the eyes. It is often combined with a neck lift to smooth the skin on the neck, correct muscle banding, and address jowls or a double chin. A facelift can also be combined with eyelid surgery or a brow lift to give a naturally younger look to the entire face. The goal in combining procedures is to make a harmonious change, so that the whole face and neck look younger, with no jarring signs of aging that have been left untreated.
Why You Might Consider a Facelift in Beverly Hills
With age, facial skin loses its flexibility and resilience. It begins to sag and show noticeable wrinkles and creases. Facial fat shifts downward from its youthful positions, flattening the cheeks and hollowing the areas under the eyes while accumulating into jowls of a double chin. The underlying muscles, too, lose tone and contribute to an aging look.
You might consider facial surgery if you’re bothered by:
- Facial lines and wrinkles that are becoming more noticeable and less responsive to your regular skincare treatments
- Jowls or sagging skin in the lower part of your face
- Flattened cheeks and hollows below your eyes
A facelift can restore your pride in your appearance, make you look younger and more attractive, and change the way others perceive you.
Planning Your Facelift Surgery in Beverly Hills
Your initial consultation with Dr. Feldmar is a key step in understanding whether a facelift is right for you and, if so, in planning the safest and most effective approach for the procedure. In your consultation, Dr. Feldmar will ask questions to understand your goals for the surgery and your medical history, including all of the medications you take. He will examine you to assess the quality of the skin on your face and neck and to gain a clear sense of your unique facial features. He will also take photographs of your face and neckline during your consultation. This provides a point of reference for changes desired from the surgery. Dr. Feldmar will then make recommendations based on his medical expertise. He will explain the surgical approach he recommends and what you can expect throughout the process.
Dr. Feldmar’s goal, and the goal of everyone at Feldmar Aesthetics, is to help you make informed decisions, have realistic expectations, and feel comfortable through each step in your experience.

How Is Facelift Surgery Performed?
Facelift surgery is performed in our innovative Swall Surgery Center in Beverly Hills, designed and built to our specifications to provide safe, high-quality, personalized patient care. Facelift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, using general anesthesia.
In a full or traditional facelift, to correct moderate to advanced signs of facial aging, incisions are made along the hairline and in the natural creases in front of the ears. Depending on the desired changes, an additional incision may be made under the chin. In some cases, further incisions are made in the lower eyelids or upper lip. Through these incisions, the underlying muscles and connective tissues are lifted and tightened, creating a re-sculpted foundation for the improvements being made. Excess fat is removed, and some may be transferred to parts of the face where more volume is needed, such as the upper cheeks or under the eyes. Excess skin is trimmed away to reduce sagging and wrinkling, and the remaining skin is pulled smoothly across the new contours of the face.
In a mini or limited-incision facelift, which corrects mild to moderate signs of facial aging, shorter incisions are made at the temples and around the ears. As with a full facelift, underlying muscles are raised and tightened, fat is removed or repositioned, and the skin of the lower face is pulled upward to smooth wrinkles and eliminate jowls.
After closing the incisions and placing dressings, you will be moved to a specialized recovery unit. When you have recovered from the anesthesia, you can go home. You’ll need to arrange ahead of time to have a friend or family member drive you and stay with you for at least the first night.

What to Expect After Your Facelift Surgery
You can expect some bruising and swelling in the days immediately after the surgery. You’ll be instructed to sleep with your head elevated for at least the first two weeks after surgery to minimize swelling and promote healing. In some cases, drainage tubes are placed in the incisions as the surgery is completed, which is another way to control swelling. It’s also common to experience some pain and discomfort at first, which can be managed with pain medication.
Dr. Feldmar will give you instructions on how to care for the wounds to prevent infection during your facelift recovery, when to return for follow-up appointments, and how to gradually resume your normal activities. A diet of soft, bland foods is recommended for the first few days.
Most patients choose to take about two weeks off from work, to allow the bruising and swelling to fade, or as little as a week after a mini facelift. You can resume light exercise after about two to four weeks, gradually building up to your regular activity and exercise routine at about two months.
You’ll notice the improvements to your face right away, but they’ll be partially obscured by swelling and bruising. By two to three months after your surgery, you’ll look and feel great, and the results will continue to improve over the next few months.

Facelift FAQS in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, CA
Not likely. Facial cosmetic procedures have been successful in individuals up to 80 years old. Unless you have a dangerous medical condition, you may be a candidate for a facelift. Technology advancements have led to a dramatic decrease in the risk associated with facial plastic surgeries.
Due to the unique nature of facelifts in Los Angeles, costs vary by patient, depending on surgical technique, anatomical needs, and aesthetic goals. During your consultation, Dr. Feldmar will determine the scope of your procedure and estimate your facelift cost.
Dr. Feldmar will advise you to stop taking certain medications in the days leading up to the surgery if these can interfere with the body’s healing or increase the risk of excessive bleeding. You’ll need to refrain from drinking or eating anything the night before your facelift surgery, usually beginning at midnight. You’ll be instructed to shower with an anti-microbial soap the evening before and again the morning of the procedure. This removes dangerous pathogens from your body.
Many Beverly Hills facelift patients elect to undergo this procedure as part of a multi-procedure process. It is common for a facelift to incorporate a fat transfer from another area of the body to achieve the desired shape and volume. Facial implants or soft tissue augmentation can be used for similar effects. Many patients also elect to undergo some skin resurfacing or rejuvenating procedure, which involves using light and other energy sources. Once the facelift has addressed the structural issues you wish to correct, skin resurfacing can help you attain the pigmentation and smooth, youthful appearance you desire. Wrinkle reduction can also be addressed through different injectable options.
This depends on the reasoning behind your facelift surgery. Insurance companies routinely refuse to pay for services for most individuals opting to have plastic surgery for aesthetic purposes only. Please check with your insurance company before your consultation. This will help to prevent any unexpected expenses.

Depending on the extensiveness and nature of previous procedures, your options moving forward may be somewhat limited. Still, Dr. Feldmar will put all his energy, expertise, and creative innovation into finding the best possible solution for you. While a facelift is the gold standard facial rejuvenation procedure, Dr. Feldman does offer other effective non-surgical facelift options, including many procedures through our MedSpa. Treatments like laser skin resurfacing, skin tightening, microneedling, dermal fillers, and neuromodulators can help slow the signs of aging for patients not yet ready for a facelift.
Before your consultation, it’s helpful to gather your medical history, a list of medications you’re currently taking, and any questions or concerns you may have. During our meeting, we will discuss your goals, assess your unique needs, and develop a personalized treatment plan together.
On the day of your facelift surgery, we’ll provide you with detailed instructions to ensure everything goes smoothly. You should plan for a ride to and from the surgery center, wear comfortable clothing, and avoid eating or drinking for a specified period before the procedure. Rest assured, our team will guide you through every step to make you feel comfortable and well-prepared.
A facelift procedure typically takes several hours, but the exact duration can vary depending on the extent of the surgery and your individual needs. During your consultation, we will discuss the expected timeline for your specific case.
There is no specific age for a facelift, as it depends on individual factors like genetics, skin quality, and personal goals. Some patients opt for facelifts in their 40s or 50s, while others may choose it later. It’s more about addressing the signs of aging than a specific age requirement.
A traditional facelift is a more extensive procedure that addresses a broader area of the face and neck. A mini facelift is less invasive and primarily targets specific areas with milder sagging or aging. The choice between the two depends on your individual needs and goals.
A liquid facelift involves injectable fillers and Botox to temporarily reduce wrinkles and add volume, while a traditional facelift is a surgical procedure that addresses loose skin and sagging facial tissues. The choice between the two depends on your desired outcome and whether you prefer a non-surgical or surgical approach.
To prolong your facelift results, it’s crucial to follow post-operative care instructions, protect your skin from sun damage, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and consider non-surgical maintenance treatments when needed.
You can typically resume some social activities within a week or two after your facelift, but it’s essential to follow post-operative instructions and avoid strenuous activities and sun exposure.
You should avoid strenuous exercise for several weeks following your facelift. We will provide specific guidelines based on your progress during your recovery.
Most patients can return to work within two weeks after a facelift, depending on their individual healing process and the nature of their job.
Smoking can increase the risk of complications and slow down the healing process. It’s highly advisable to quit smoking or at least temporarily stop before and after the surgery to optimize your results and minimize risks.
Like any surgical procedure, a facelift carries some risks, including infection, scarring, and anesthesia-related complications. We will thoroughly discuss these risks during your consultation and take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and well-being throughout the process. Your comfort and health are our top priorities.
