Breast Augmentation

Los Angeles Breast Augmentation in Beverly Hills

Breast augmentation, or breast enhancement, is the most popular plastic surgery procedure in the United States and offers the highest patient satisfaction ratings. Women choose to have breast augmentation for many reasons: to create more attractive and feminine curves, to bring the body’s proportions into better balance, or to correct asymmetries between the breasts. Many women combine breast augmentation with a breast lift to enhance breast size and shape and correct sagging.

Considering Breast Augmentation in Beverly Hills with Dr. Feldmar

The size and shape of your breasts can affect your pride in your body and your confidence in yourself. Breast augmentation can provide an ideal solution for those who may have had smaller breasts since puberty and are looking for a change or those whose breasts have lost volume or fullness following pregnancy or weight loss.

Breast augmentation can:

  • Enhance the size and projection of breasts
  • Improve the shape of breasts, making them fuller and rounder
  • Correct asymmetry between the breasts, when one breast is smaller than the other
  • Bring better balance between the proportions of the hips and breasts
  • Restore breast volume and shape following pregnancy or weight loss
  • Allow for better fit and greater confidence in choosing clothing
  • Increase self-esteem and self-image for enhanced confidence

It’s important to note that breast augmentation won’t correct significant breast sagging or drooping. To address that concern, a breast lift is the appropriate procedure. In your consultation, Dr. Feldmar can help you understand whether breast augmentation, a breast lift, or a combination of the two procedures will help you achieve the desired results.

Planning Your Breast Augmentation Surgery in Los Angeles

Breast augmentation involves many choices. Implants come in different types, shapes, and sizes, and they can be placed within the breast tissue or behind the pectoral (chest) muscle. In your consultation, Dr. Feldmar will help you navigate those options. He’ll ask questions to understand the changes you want to make, examine you to understand your anatomy and the proportions of your body and recommend a specific approach based on his medical expertise. He will explain the surgical approach he recommends and what you can expect throughout the process.

Dr. Feldmar’s goal, and the goal of everyone at Feldmar Aesthetics, is to help you make informed decisions, have realistic expectations, and feel comfortable through each step in your experience.

Breast Implant Options

Breast Implant Types

There are basically two categories of breast implants: silicone gel implants and saline implants. Both are made with an outer silicone shell. The difference lies in the filling that is used.

Saline breast implants are filled with a sterile saline solution or salt water after they have been placed in the breast.

  • One advantage of saline implants is that, when filled after placement in the breast, the surgery involves a smaller incision, which may leave a less noticeable scar. Another is that saline implants are known for providing greater firmness and uniformity to the breasts.
  • When the shell of a saline implant leaks or ruptures, the implant collapses. The body naturally absorbs the saline solution without negative health effects, but the breast will appear smaller and flatter. When this occurs, the implant should be replaced immediately to restore aesthetic results.
  • The FDA approves silicone breast implants for women aged 18 and older.

Silicone gel breast implants are filled with a uniquely formulated silicone gel that has a density and consistency to mimic the texture and flexibility of natural breast tissue closely.

  • The advantages of silicone gel implants include the natural look and feel they create and their suitability for women with less breast tissue to surround the implant.
  • One consideration is that, should the implant shell rupture, no immediate cosmetic change is likely to be noticed, as the gel will largely remain in position. As such, it’s important to continue routine mammograms or MRIs to detect leaks and ruptures. Following leaks or ruptures, it’s important to consult your plastic surgeon to schedule breast revision to replace the implant.
  • The FDA approves silicone breast implants for women aged 22 and older.

Breast Implant Shapes and Sizes

Breast implants are made in different sizes, measured in width and thickness, or profile. They are also made in both round and teardrop shapes. The best implant size and shape for you will depend on your anatomy and your desired results. Learn more about breast implant sizes

Breast Implant Placement

Breast implants can be placed within the breast tissue (subglandular placement) or below the chest muscle (submuscular or subpectoral placement). Each placement option has advantages and disadvantages based on different body types, levels of physical activity, and implant size. Dr. Feldmar will explain these options, including those he recommends for you, in your consultation.

How Is Breast Augmentation Surgery Performed?

Breast augmentation is performed in our state-of-the-art Swall Surgery Center in Beverly Hills, designed and built to our specifications to provide safe, high-quality, personalized patient care. Breast augmentation surgery is performed on an outpatient basis using general anesthesia.

During the procedure, Dr. Feldmar will make incisions to place the implants. These will be either around the edge of the areola (periareolar incision), along the curve of the crease below the breast (inframammary incision), or, in some cases, in the underarm (transaxillary incision). Dr. Feldmar will explain his surgical plan during his consultation with you, including where the incision will be made.

Once the incisions are made, a pocket is created to hold the implant. Then, the implant is placed. The incisions are then closed, and the procedure is complete. When you have recovered from the anesthesia, you can go home. You’ll need to arrange to have a friend or family member drive you and stay with you for at least the first night.

Breast Augmentation Surgery Recovery

Plan to rest at home for a few days after surgery and have someone available to help you with household tasks. You won’t be able to lift anything over five pounds or reach above your head for the first few days, so you will likely need help with childcare or pet care. It’s common to feel sore at first, but this can be managed with pain medication. You can also expect to experience some swelling. Wearing a surgical bra will help minimize the swelling while supporting the implants as your breasts heal.

Dr. Feldmar will provide instructions on how to care for your incisions to prevent infection, when to return for follow-up appointments, and how to gradually resume your normal activities. Most patients can return to work after 5 to 7 days. However, for those with physically strenuous jobs, you may need up to 4 to 6 weeks. You can start to exercise again after a month; however, start with low-impact activities and gradually build up to your regular exercise routine at about two months.

You’ll notice the enhancements to your breasts right away and will see the final results at about six months after all the post-surgical swelling has disappeared.

Breast Augmentation FAQS in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, CA

As per the FDA regulation, a woman needs to reach a minimum age of 18 years before undergoing a breast augmentation procedure using saline breast implants. For silicone-gel implants, the minimum age is 22 years.

Breast implants have a variable lifespan and are not designed to last indefinitely. Typically, they can last for 10 to 20 years, although this can be influenced by the kind of implant chosen, the method of insertion, and personal characteristics. Consistent medical follow-ups and adherence to your surgeon’s aftercare directions are essential for preserving the integrity of the implants.

During the initial medical assessment with your doctor, it is crucial to discuss your expectations and get their feedback on the same. You might need to halt the consumption of certain medicines a couple of days/weeks prior to your surgery.

Breast enlargement will leave some scarring. However, our surgeons are adept at minimizing and strategically placing incisions to reduce visible scarring. Post-surgical care plays a role in scar appearance; following your surgeon’s guidance can aid in the healing process and the potential diminishment of scar visibility over time.

Selecting the right profile, style, and implant size is a collaborative process. During our consultation, we’ll discuss your goals, examine your unique anatomy, and consider factors like body type and lifestyle. Together, we’ll make an informed decision that aligns with your desires and looks natural on you.

Communication is key. We encourage you to bring photos and communicate your desired size and look clearly during consultations. We’ll provide guidance based on your preferences and our expertise to ensure you achieve the size that suits you best.

Achieving a natural look and feel depends on factors like implant type, size, and placement. We offer various implant options, including silicone and saline, to cater to your preferences. We’ll work closely with you to choose the best option for your desired outcome.

Yes, we can create cleavage and position the breasts higher on your chest through surgical techniques. The extent of cleavage and positioning can be discussed during your consultation to meet your expectations.

The Keller Funnel is a device that aids in the implant placement process. It can result in smaller incisions, reduced trauma, and potentially faster recovery. We use advanced techniques to ensure the best possible results for our patients.

The “no-touch technique” minimizes the risk of contamination during surgery. It involves using specialized instruments and gloves to handle implants and reduce the risk of infection.

The use of internal support, like GalaFLEX, may be recommended if you have specific concerns about implant support or long-term results. We’ll assess your needs and discuss the appropriate options during your consultation.

If you have sagging breasts in addition to wanting more volume, a combination of a breast lift and implants may be recommended. We’ll evaluate your breast position and discuss the best approach to achieve your desired outcome.

Yes, breast augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the procedure.

It’s advisable to have a responsible adult stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery to assist with your immediate needs and provide support.

We will provide specific post-operative instructions, which may include wearing a supportive bra for a specified period to aid in healing and protect the surgical site.

Recovery varies among individuals but generally involves some initial discomfort, which can be managed with medication. You can gradually resume exercise after a few weeks, following our guidance.

The time off work depends on the nature of your job and your individual recovery. Most patients can return to light-duty work within a week or two, while more physically demanding jobs may require additional time off.

Yes, mammograms can still be performed after breast augmentation, but it’s essential to inform the technician about your implants for the most accurate results.

Drains are not typically necessary for breast augmentation procedures.

We often use dissolvable sutures, which do not require removal. If non-dissolvable sutures are used, they will be removed at a follow-up appointment.

Changes in nipple sensation can occur but are typically temporary. Most patients regain sensation over time.

Breast implants are not lifetime devices, and some patients may choose to replace them after several years. Regular follow-up appointments will help monitor the condition of your implants.

Common complications can include infection, implant rupture, and changes in sensation. We take all necessary precautions to minimize these risks.

Yes, there will be scars, but we aim to place incisions discreetly, and they typically fade over time.

Implant rupture is possible but rare. Modern implants are designed to be durable. If a rupture does occur, you may notice changes in breast shape or feel, and further evaluation would be necessary.

Sensations of tightness are common after surgery, and moving within reasonable limits should not cause harm. We will provide guidance on how to safely manage discomfort during your recovery. Your well-being is our priority.

Breastfeeding with implants is possible, but success depends on factors like surgical technique and incision placement. While there may be a slightly higher risk of interference with milk production and flow, advancements in surgical techniques have minimized these risks. Communicating your desire to breastfeed with your plastic surgeon and choosing the right surgical approach can help maximize the chances of successful breastfeeding post-operatively.
