Liposuction in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, CA

It would be wonderful if diet and exercise got rid of all the excess fat on your body, but for many people, it doesn’t. Your arms might look slim and toned while your thighs stay thick with stubborn fat. By selectively slimming areas of excess fat, liposuction for body contouring can put the finishing touches on your efforts to improve your physique.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is among the most popular and widely performed cosmetic procedures, not just in this country but around the world. It is performed by inserting thin tubes, called cannulas, into areas of unwanted fat, breaking the fat up, and removing it using suction. By precisely removing fat from targeted areas, liposuction works to improve your body contours and make you look slimmer, more toned, and more attractive.

What Are The Benefits Of Liposuction?

Several people admit to feeling frustrated when trying to reduce excess fat accumulated in the abdominal area, thighs, flanks and other body parts. In some cases, exercise and diet may not alone be useful in eliminating/reducing stubborn fat. Hence, for those who wish to see noticeable results and get a more aesthetically appealing body shape, liposuction is an excellent option to consider. Patients all over the world have been undergoing this plastic surgery for over 3 decades now! You can be assured of its safety and effectiveness in enhancing your figure as it relies on the accurate targeting and elimination of isolated fat deposits.

It is critical for all liposuction candidates to understand that the procedure is aimed at improving the body shape. It does not target sagging skin, cellulite or weight.

Why You Might Consider Liposuction in Beverly Hills with Dr. Feldmar

It’s common for different parts of the body to retain or lose fat at different rates. As a result, when you gain and lose weight, some areas will look fine while others seem to defy your slimming efforts. Liposuction can remove or reduce unwanted bulges of fat almost anywhere on your body.

Areas commonly treated with liposuction for stubborn fat include:

  • Liposuction for abdomen
  • Waist, including liposuction for love handles
  • Buttocks and hips
  • Back
  • Liposuction for thighs
  • Liposuction for arms
  • Chest as part of breast reduction for both men and women
  • Ankles and calves
  • Neck, chin, and cheeks, including liposuction for double chin

It’s important to note that liposuction is a body contouring treatment rather than a weight loss solution. Liposuction for fat removal addresses discrete pockets of unwanted fat in specific parts of the body. It isn’t used to remove fat over broad areas of the body. Liposuction for cellulite treatment is not an effective solution. Instead, Dr. Feldmar may recommend other medspa treatments to address the appearance of cellulite.

Liposuction is also most effective where the skin has the resilience to tighten over the treated area after fat volume is reduced. Where skin is stretched or sagging, liposuction can be combined with lifting and tightening procedures that remove excess skin. These include tummy tuck, arm lift, thigh lift, and back lift.

The fat removed via liposuction can also be used in a fat transfer procedure to add volume to parts of the body where more fullness is wanted, such as the cheeks, lips, breasts, or buttocks (in a Brazilian butt lift).

Some of the common body parts that can be successfully treated/reshaped with liposuction include:

  • Buttocks and hips
  • Back
  • Waist and abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Upper arms
  • Chest
  • Ankles and calves
  • Neck, chin, and cheeks

Liposuction Methods

All liposuction involves making small incisions, through which the liposuction cannula is inserted into a fat deposit. Different methods are then used to prepare the fat for removal. Which methods Dr. Feldman uses in your liposuction treatment will depend on the location, density, and amount of fat in the treated area.

Tumescent liposuction

Involves the injection of a sterile fluid into the fat. The fluid is made up of saline solution, lidocaine, and epinephrine. The fluid stiffens the fat to ease removal while reducing discomfort and bleeding during the procedure and bruising afterward.

Suction-assisted liposuction (SAL)

Uses finely calibrated vacuum suction to remove fat through the cannula.

Laser-assisted liposuction (LAL)

Uses a precisely controlled beam of laser light to break down the fatty tissue for removal. The laser liposuction method minimizes bleeding during the procedure and bruising and inflammation afterward.

Power-assisted liposuction (PAL)

Uses the motorized movement of the cannula to break up the fat for removal. This enables the use of a finer cannula, smaller incisions, and greater precision in removing fat.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL)

Uses soundwave energy to liquefy fat for removal.

What to Expect During Your Liposuction Treatment

Liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure, using local or general anesthesia, in our state-of-the-art Swall Surgery Center in Beverly Hills. Before starting the procedure, Dr. Feldmar will mark the targeted areas. He will use these marks as guides during the procedure to ensure naturally contoured results.

Once the anesthesia has taken full effect, Dr. Feldmar will make small incisions through which to insert the cannula. The fat is prepared and removed through the cannula using one or more of the methods described above. The procedure usually takes between one and three hours, depending on how many areas are treated and the amount of fat removed. Once the fat has been removed as planned, the incisions are closed.

When you have recovered from the anesthesia, you can go home. Arrange ahead of time to have a trusted friend or family member drive you.

What to Expect During Liposuction Recovery

It’s common to feel some soreness at first, which can be managed with pain medication. You can also expect to experience some swelling and bruising. Wearing a compression garment or elastic bandage will help control the swelling while supporting the treated areas during the healing process. Drainage tubes may be placed beneath the skin to help reduce swelling.

Dr. Feldmar will give you instructions on how to care for the wounds to prevent infection, when to return for follow-up appointments, and how to gradually resume your normal activities. Most patients can return to work a few days after their liposuction procedure. The timing of when you can resume activity and exercise will depend on the extent of your liposuction treatment.

You’ll notice the improvements from your liposuction treatment when the swelling goes down, which can take a few weeks. You’ll see the final results at about six months after all post-surgical swelling has resolved.

Frequently Asked Questions About Liposuction Surgery

Liposuction results are typically long-lasting. The fat cells removed in the procedure are gone forever and won’t grow back. The remaining fat cells can, however, increase in size if you gain weight. To ensure the longest-lasting results, maintain a steady weight through healthy eating and exercise habits.

The incisions made are very small, about a quarter of an inch long, so the resulting liposuction scars are minimal and barely noticeable.

Some excess fat is removed with liposuction, but it is not a way to lose weight. Liposuction is a body contouring procedure rather than a weight-loss procedure. The best candidates for liposuction are at or near a healthy weight but bothered by discrete pockets of unwanted fat that are resistant to slimming with diet and exercise.

Unfortunately, no. Liposuction removes fat from beneath the skin, while the bulges and dimpling of cellulite are from fat near the surface of the skin. In some cases, liposuction may make cellulite less noticeable by removing deeper layers of fat, but the procedure has no direct effect on cellulite.

Liposuction, like all plastic surgery procedures, carries some risks of infection, blood clots, and poor healing. These risks are minimized by careful screening for existing health conditions in choosing candidates for the procedure, and in the care taken in performing the surgery. You can help reduce the risk of complications by carefully following Dr. Feldmar’s postoperative care instructions.

Liposuction costs will vary with the number of areas treated, the method used, and the amount of fat removed. In your consultation, Dr. Feldmar will review all of the costs with you, including the costs of the surgery and anesthesia, so you can make a fully informed decision.

After liposuction, it’s essential to follow post-operative instructions carefully. Avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for a few weeks to promote proper healing. Also, steer clear of smoking and alcohol, which can hinder the healing process. Maintain a healthy diet and stay hydrated to support your recovery.

Liposuction results are long-lasting, but it’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to preserve them. With a balanced diet and regular exercise, you can enjoy your improved contour for years to come.

Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from treated areas. While fat distribution can change naturally over time, liposuction itself does not cause fat to grow back in other areas.

Pain levels can vary from person to person, but discomfort is typically manageable with prescribed pain medication. You may experience some soreness and swelling after the procedure, which will improve over time.

Sleeping with your head and upper body elevated at a 30 to 45-degree angle can help reduce swelling and discomfort after liposuction. We’ll provide specific recommendations to ensure your comfort during sleep.

Liposuction and a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) are both body contouring procedures, but they target different concerns. Liposuction removes excess fat from specific areas, while a tummy tuck addresses loose skin and muscle repair in the abdominal region. The choice between the two depends on your individual needs and goals. During a consultation, we can determine the most suitable approach for you. Your satisfaction and well-being are our top priorities.
